The Pittsburgh Penguins are actively negotiating and hope to secure a new deal with Russian forward Evgeni Malkin, according to General Manager Kyle Dubas. Speaking on the team’s social media, Dubas stated, “We had a great final conversation with Evgeny in person and excellent discussions with him and his agent. So we would really like to keep him, and we continue to work with his agent on this.”
Malkin’s current contract with the Penguins expires at the end of the 2025/26 season. He has played for the team since 2006, winning three Stanley Cups (2009, 2016, 2017). 
Previously, Malkin indicated he does not plan to return to the KHL and wants to play another season in the NHL. If the Penguins do not offer him a new contract, he is prepared to join another NHL team.
In the current regular season, Malkin recorded 61 points (19 goals, 42 assists) in 56 games, adding 3 points (2 goals, 1 assist) in the playoffs. The Penguins were eliminated in the first round of the NHL playoffs by the Philadelphia Flyers in six games.
