Cristiano Ronaldo’s wait for a league title in Saudi Arabia continues after his team, Al-Nassr, was held to a 1-1 draw by second-placed Al-Hilal on Tuesday night. The 41-year-old former World Player of the Year saw his side concede a late equalizer deep into stoppage time, denying them the chance to seal the championship with a game to spare.
Despite the setback, Al-Nassr remains top of the Saudi Pro League with 83 points, five points clear of Al-Hilal, who have played one more match. With one game remaining, Ronaldo still holds the advantage in the title race.
Al-Nassr took the lead in the 37th minute through former RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan. However, goalkeeper Bento’s unfortunate own goal in the eighth minute of added time (90+8) canceled out the advantage and postponed the title celebrations.
Since joining Al-Nassr in December 2022, the five-time Champions League winner and Euro 2016 champion has yet to lift a league trophy in Saudi Arabia. This season, the veteran striker has netted 26 goals in the league, keeping his team in strong contention for the crown.
